The challenge every growing IT retailer eventually hits: a website that sells, but can’t tell you what it sells.
Al Ershad Computers is an established UAE IT-hardware and electronics retailer with a catalogue of roughly 3,000 products. Their online store, alershadonline.com, was built on a custom platform and attracted genuinely healthy traffic — organic search was its single biggest channel all year. But it had a critical blind spot: the site couldn’t measure its own sales. Real demand existed, yet there was no reliable way to connect that traffic to revenue, see which channels performed, or know which products moved. Marketing decisions were being made in the dark.
Al Ershad partnered with Veloris Global to migrate the store to Shopify — and, just as importantly, to preserve every bit of catalogue data and finally make the business measurable.
What we set out to protect
Replatforming an e-commerce store is not just a design change — it’s moving the entire engine of the business. Our priorities were clear:
- Zero data loss — migrate the full ~3,000-product catalogue, images, pricing and structure intact.
- Measurement from day one — so every order, product and channel is visible immediately.
- Protect hard-won search equity — manage the transition so Google visibility recovers quickly.
How we did it
- Full catalogue migration to Shopify — thousands of SKUs moved cleanly onto a scalable, modern platform built to handle a large IT-hardware range.
- Product feed rebuilt and optimised for Google Merchant Center, achieving a 99% feed-approval rate — near-perfect health across the catalogue.
- Analytics installed correctly from go-live — GA4 plus Shopify’s own reporting, so the business could see orders, products, customers and channels for the first time in the site’s history.
- Data reconciliation — we validated the new analytics against Shopify’s order records to confirm the numbers could be trusted for real decisions.
- SEO transition managed — legacy URL structures were mapped for redirection to carry their search authority to the new store.
- Multi-market foundations — the new store was built ready to expand into Bahrain and Oman.
Being honest about replatforming
Any migration carries a short adjustment period: when a new site goes live, search engines need time to re-index it, and product-listing visibility can temporarily dip before it recovers. We managed Al Ershad through that window — and Google visibility recovered to above its pre-migration baseline, on a stronger trajectory than before. This is the reality of replatforming done responsibly, and knowing how to navigate it is exactly where experience matters.
The results
Within the first few months on Shopify:
- 📊 Full commercial visibility from day one — every order, product and channel measurable for the first time ever.
- 📈 Sales grew every single month, more than doubling over the first four months.
- 🛒 Monthly online purchases doubled, and click-through on Google listings roughly doubled.
- 🌐 Free Google Shopping listings became one of the best-performing channels — proving the catalogue converts organically before a single dirham of paid media.
- 💻 High-value IT products — workstations, gaming laptops, monitors — now transact reliably through the new checkout.
- 🤖 Emerging channels captured, including traffic from AI assistants like ChatGPT — the kind of demand a modern platform is positioned to catch.
- 🌍 Ready to scale into new GCC markets.
Why this matters for IT and electronics retailers
Al Ershad’s move proves a point we see again and again: you can’t grow what you can’t measure. Migrating to Shopify didn’t just modernise the storefront — it turned an unmeasurable website into a transparent, growing sales channel with room to scale across the GCC.
